Georgia Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (GCDHH)

In Georgia, iCanConnect is administered by the Georgia Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, (GCDHH).

GCDHH is a statewide agency that serves people who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, deaf-blind, and/or speech impaired.  Through iCanConnect/GA, GCDHH ensures that every person with combined hearing and vision loss has access to modern telecommunication tools and the training necessary to use them, granting every individual the opportunity to interact with the world as an involved, contributing member of society.

Meet Willie Bivins

Willie Bivins of Statesboro, Georgia is an iCanConnect/GA client.  Blind with hearing loss, Mr. Bivins received modern telecommunications equipment that has changed his life—enabling him to regain a level of independence. Not long after receiving his equipment and training, Mr. Bivins wrote a heartfelt essay entitled, “Sometimes Miracles Happen, Sometimes Dreams Come True,” in which he describes his struggles, his dream of accessing new communications technology and how it changed his life.

“If only I could afford an iPad and a braille display… I was told if I were to receive this equipment, I would be able to live like a normal person… Finally, the miracle happened.  Finally, the dream came true.”
